I'm skeptical of any pizza place that advertises itself at "New York Pizza", "East Coast Pizza" or something similar. Right Coast Pizza in Wheat Ridge, CO falls into that trap, advertising itself as "Jersey style pizza." It doesn't mean I don't like thin crust, east coast pizza. I do. But there's just as much bad pizza in New York and New Jersey as there is good. Why lump yourself in with a style of pizza that isn't always great? I've eaten countless slices up and down the I-95 corridor from New York to DC. Maybe that's why I'm skeptical of these places. I'm looking for something fresh.
What I ate: A slice of pepperoni and a slice of mushroom.
Rating: 3 Stars out of 5.
Right Coast Pizza is located in a pleasant spot, with a tree lined sidewalk, on 38th Ave in Wheat Ridge. I've driven past it several times and have seen it during visits to Wheat Ridge Cyclery, which is across the street. This was my first visit and I enjoyed it.
I met a friend of mine for lunch on a beautiful September day. The front of the restaurant was open aired. It was a great setting. I would highly recommend checking it out.
Why 3 Stars?
- 3 Star to me is pizza that I enjoyed, was satisfied, would have again, but am in no rush to return.
- The pepperoni slice exceeded my expectations. It was big with a good balance of flavors and a nice crust. It wasn't the bad "Jersey style pizza" I was expecting.
- The mushroom slice did not. See photo below. It was the same style as the pepperoni, but the mushrooms were undercooked and the slice was overcooked. My guess is they put raw mushrooms on a pre-cooked slice into the oven for a bit longer. It made the slice too crunchy.
Try the Tillie Pizza if you go there again. Basil pesto sauce with mozzarella, chicken, spinach, garlic, onions & mushrooms. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steve. I went here on your suggestion. Cool bar and location. I'd go back just to hang out...and get the Tillie.
